Petroskey News-Review, Saturday, August 14, 1965, P 2: Sonething new has been added to Nub's Nob's swimming pool, which has enabled physically handicapped youngsters and adults to participate in a program of physical therapy and swimming instructions. A portable hydraulic lift has been installed at poolside which transports swimmers in and out of the pool with ease. It was purchased by Mrs. Chester E. Blanton of Detroit and Harbor Springs, shown above with her maid, Ophelia Blackman, who is operating the lift. Mrs. Blanton was strcken with a paralyzing virus about a year and half ago, while honeymooning at Acapulco. For many months, she was unable to even lift her arms above her head. She was encouraged by her doctors to receive therapy and to re-learn to swim at the Rehabilitation Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and since September, has enjoyed daily swimming, which provides needed relaxation and strengthens muscles throughout her body. A liflong summer resident at Harbor Springs, Mrs. Blanton is delighted that the lift she purchased is being used by others who need assistance in entering or leaving the heated pool. A friend, Mrs. Frank Hightower of Oklahoma City and Wequetonsing, assists Mrs. Blanton from the lift to a chaise lounge for a sun-bathing session and some women talk. Mrs. Blanton is spending the summer at the home of her mother Mrs. Maye Eddins Eblen, Glenn Drive, Harbor Springs and most every day may be found at Nub's pool. The water in the pool is maintained in the mid 80's for the comfort of the handicapped swimmer's there, according to Mrs. Doris Sarns. Boulder Genealogical Society Quarterly, V23 #1, Feb 1991, p 24: Veramae Adams, b in 1924, was age 13 when her dad died in March 1937. In Sept 1928 Wilbur and Mae and their daughter (Veramae) came to visit Guy and Annie from their home in Detroit, MI.
