Death | January 5, 1998 Shared note: Newspaper clipping sent by Barbara Platte, Veramae's cousin: Chester Elbert Blanton Former City of Grosse Pointe resident Chester Elbert Blanton died on Monday, Jan 5, 1998, in Naples, Fla. Mr. Blanton, 89, was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy and the Harvard Business School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as a second lieutenant and left the service as a major. A vice president and manager of Hudson's budget stores for 40 years, Mr. Blanton was also a member of the Detroit Athletic Club, the Country Club of Detroit and the Detroit Golf Club. Mr. Blanton is survived by three nieces, Barbara Knopf, Annie Davis and Nancy Henderson; six great-nieces; two great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew. Hew was predeceased by his wife, Veramae. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Beachwood Society of Naples, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fla., 34105.
