Birdnet-Pi at Munn Woods mid-year report
2024-07-01
The six figures attached show bird community level information gathered by a Birdnet-Pi device intalled near Munn Woods, Ames, IA in late February 2024. In all, 88 species have been detected. Most of them would be expected at this location at the time they were detected, so few seem to be false detections. This is encouraging given the complexity of the analyses involved. AI does indeed seem to have some beneficial uses!
One of the main points of interest is the influx of birds seen in late May during northward migration for the summer. The number of new species seen on that day matches the number detected during the first day of operation.
